The Port of Taichung, Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd., has achieved another milestone in attracting investment. Following the influx of international companies from the offshore wind energy sector setting up facilities in the port, the Port of Taichung TIPC announced on the 6th that Taiwan International Ports Heavy-Machinery Corporation Ltd. will be expanding its operations after two years of successful business. The company plans to increase its investment in a 1.5-hectare plot in the specialized service area (II) of the port. This area will be developed for office buildings and auxiliary facilities to establish a base of operations.
Two years ago, Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. established Taiwan International Ports Heavy-Machinery Corporation Ltd. in collaboration with machinery companies to cater to the unique characteristics of offshore wind energy components, such as their extreme length, width, and weight. The company specializes in managing project transportation services for offshore wind turbine components, offering custom transportation planning and design. Their services include evaluating the special nature of the cargo and environment, designing the necessary hoisting and transportation equipment, planning the transportation routes, and providing the required equipment and project execution. The company delivers integrated, customized services.
Since its inception, Taiwan International Ports Heavy-Machinery Corporation Ltd. has successfully undertaken key projects involving offshore wind turbine components. It has completed numerous hoisting and transportation projects for specialized cargoes such as nacelles, tower sections, and blades. Notably, the company has managed the land transport of 85-meter-long blades and the transportation of 400-ton nacelles, integrating land and maritime transport within the port. These projects have overcome challenges related to road space limitations in terms of length, width, height, and load capacity, effectively alleviating traffic bottlenecks and delivering impressive results after two years of operation.
The Port of Taichung, TIPC emphasized that the offshore wind energy industry is at a crucial development stage, and Taiwan International Ports Heavy-Machinery Corporation Ltd. has signed a lease agreement for a 1.5-hectare plot in the specialized service area (II) of the port to enhance its service capabilities and operational facilities. The company plans to invest further in constructing office buildings and auxiliary facilities to establish its operational base.
The Port of Taichung, TIPC further highlighted that the site for the new base has already been handed over. Once the office building is completed, it is expected to accommodate nearly 100 people. To support the increasing investments in the port area, the Port of Taichung, TIPC has not only completed the construction of an external transportation system but is also continuing with port expansion projects, aiming to attract more domestic and international industries to set up operations there.
